Rohan Rudd GumLeaf Gutter Guard Christchurch Canterbury and Otago regions.

Gutter Guard Protection Christchurch, Canterbury Otago and Nationwide.

Rohan Rudd of GumLeaf™ Gutter Guard Protection has the perfect product for New Zealand homes and businesses to safeguard the efficiency of any type of gutter. And according to Rohan, “the gutter buck stops” with him.

Without working gutters, New Zealand’s variable weather conditions can cause untold problems – overflow, blockages, leaks and moisture penetration into walls are just a few! For effective gutter function during heavy rain, wind, hail or snow, and as a deterrent against rodents and nesting birds, GumLeaf™ Gutter Guard Protection offers the best solution for your home or business.

GumLeaf™ Gutter Guard Protection is a clever and functional system that has successfully provided gutter protection for residential dwellers and commercial operators for over twenty years.
It’s a revolutionary application which has been happily adopted by hundreds of canny south islanders, where Rohan has laid an unbelievable 25,000 metres of the product.

Nationwide, Rohan works as far north as Whangarei and is available six days a week to offer advice and follow up quotes on-site.

Rohan’s work philosophy is 100% service-oriented. He oversees or personally lays GumLeaf™ Gutter Guard Protection and is passionate about the technology behind this practical product. The benefits can be appreciated almost immediately, and the merits are long term and future-forward.

With GumLeaf™, it’s all to do with quality. The steel resource behind GumLeaf™ Gutter Guard is the responsibility of leading global resource mining company, BHP Bluescope (Australia). Sustainably operated BHP know their steel and the calibre of commodity emerging from this brand is second to none.

GumLeaf™ Gutter Guard Protection is comprised of BHP top-grade Colourbond® steel and provides the durability, longevity and effectiveness required to withstand any atmospheric condition.

That means you receive the guaranteed reassurance (coupled with the BHP ten-year + GumLeaf™ five-year warranties) that your guttering will last the distance – and do the job that’s expected.
Super-tough, low maintenance and UV resistant, GumLeaf™ Gutter Guard Protection is not only genuinely effective; it’s the real deal.

GumLeaf Gutter Guard Protection

Whether you’re working a job fulltime, busy with family, or simply want to lower your maintenance time and costs, GumLeaf™ Gutter Guard Protection can help you deal with the impact of your surrounding environment.

We’re all in it together so we know that the climate in New Zealand can be challenging! And when it’s blowing a gale, pouring with rain, or snowing in the deep south, the pressure on your guttering goes into overdrive.

Keeping gutters clear is just one more job we wish we didn’t have to do. But allowing gutter water to flow is crucial – particularly if you rely on rain harvesting as a household or industry resource. It makes sense to prevent the build-up of obstructive debris in the first place, enabling a consistent, regular and reliable supply to top up the water tank – and keep your family (and garden) hydrated.

GumLeaf™ Gutter Guard Protection is a well-tested and performance-guaranteed product that we endorse with our professional name riding on its value.

Our customers have plenty to say, too, so please take the time to read our testimonial section.

The way GumLeaf™ works is by covering your existing roof guttering with a louvre shaped, expanded mesh grill. This mesh is screwed and glued to the underside of your roofing tiles or corrugations and is invisible from street level. The mesh has unique drainage capacity, is fixed exactly to the shape of your roof with no chance of leakage and is designed to allow optimum water flow while encouraging leaves and debris to slide off the guttering.

It’s attractive, very easy to maintain and produced from the same material as Colour Steel® Roofing which means we offer a range of colours to match the roofing of your home or business premise.
• Compatible with all roofing types and materials
• Steel resource mined by market leader, BHP Bluescope Australia, (1851)
• 0.55mm thick (same as roofing iron) at the lowest point
• 2.00mm at the raised aperture
• 200mm x 1200mm pieces
• Sturdy, heavy-duty steel

• Flammability index of 0 as a result of testing by CSIRO.
• No powder coating required, except for marine locale
• Heavy weight-resistant (will carry 600kg of snow per metre)

• High zinc content (self-healing)
• Strong, safe, tailored, and precise roof binding process.

What we offer

Finding a preventative remedy to protect your gutters from the impact of New Zealand’s weird and wonderful weather conditions (and a plethora of pests) just got a lot easier.

Wind and rain are the prime culprits in cluttering your gutters with leaves and debris, and if you live rurally near a shelterbelt of pines or Casuarinas, you’ll understand the frustration of having to manually clear those gutters after every storm.

GumLeaf™ Gutter Guard circumnavigates these time-consuming situations by preventing them from occurring in the first place. Our systems are specifically designed to protect your gutters with a high grade, tough steel mesh grid, colour coordinated with your roof and meticulously installed by our specialist practitioner.
Our work processes are governed by strict health and safety parameters including WorkSafe’s Working at Height guidelines as per the Health and Safety at Work Act, 2015: a basic requirement for our industry.

As franchisee members of a successful international group of companies operating in Australia, North America and New Zealand, we have access to extensive training and group experience, and of course, we are required to adhere to best practice standards regarding installation, business methods and ethics.

Our processes reflect this ethos and we are proud to demonstrate our proficiency in applying GumLeaf™ Gutter Guard Protection to any kind of roof.
The two main roof types in New Zealand are fabricated from corrugated iron or tile. The process of installing GumLeaf™ Gutter Guard.

We have an engineers’ report for snow loading which is available for your local council should you need it

Guard Protection is tailored to each situation, but below is a brief rundown:
1. On-site measure and quote
2. Colour choice to match existing roof (for tiles we can offer only one colour: Woodland Grey)
3. Flush out existing gutters and downpipes
4. Measure the gap between the gutter lip and edge of the roof
5. Hand fold and fit the mesh to the corrugation of the roof or under the first tile
6. Secure to the guttering lip using tapered, colour matched stitching screws, interlocking each overlap
7. Cut and screw to fit perfectly
8. Apply generous quantities of Gorilla (non-toxic, transparent, unaffected by moisture, weathering and UV exposure) MS-based silicon adhesive sealant
9. Stand back and enjoy!

Health and Safety/ Insurance

We are committed to following best-practice standards in all our transactions, and as franchisee members, the team at GumLeaf™ Gutter Guard Protection understand we are not only responsible to our clients, but also our fellow franchisees.

This means that our work practices are exemplary, we are Site Safe certified, and we are committed to following all jurisdictions for WorkSafe’s Working at Height guidelines as per the Health and Safety at Work Act, 2015, unit standard 15757 & AS: NZ 1891.4.2007.

This document gives us guidance on managing risk when working on roofs, including controls to prevent falls from roofs and the use of safety equipment.

Being certified as able to operate at height also means it is our responsibility to evaluate site safety and operate safely to protect our clients from any liability that would arise from an un-certified installer injuring himself on your property.

GumLeaf™ Gutter Guard Protection follow WorkSafe’s guidelines to ensure:
• Safe access to the roof area
• Assessment of the roofing materials
• Identify hazards associated with working at height from or through the roof
• Brittle roofing assessment
• Other working at height hazards (for example, weather, electricity)
• Establishing equipment and hazard controls for working at height
• Safe working practice
• Training and supervision.

Our understanding of legal obligation extends to knowledge of insurance – both ours and yours.

We recommend you take good care of your roof and gutters as it is likely that your insurance claim for water damage caused by a spouting blockage (accumulated leaf or debris etc) will be declined. In our experience the reason for this is because most policies have a “reasonable maintenance and repair” clause and a “take all reasonable precautions to prevent loss occurring” clause; just one more reason to have GumLeaf™ Gutter Guard installed!

For our part, we carry $2,000,000 of insurance to protect your property and other assets from an accident or any other problem inadvertently caused by us.

FAQ’s

How do we achieve our competitive price?

We keep our overheads low as there are no sales staff, no expensive advertising and no admin over heads. As the importers we don’t have to buy from a wholesaler in NZ who would “clip the ticket” along the way.

What is the product made of?

Australian Made BHP BlueScope Colorbond® steel.

Do you clean the gutters before installation?

Yes, we certainly do. All gutters, valleys and down-pipes are cleaned before GumLeaf™ gutter protection is installed.

What’s best: plastic, aluminium or steel?

The most important thing you should think about is the life of the gutter guard. Plastics are not made for extreme conditions as they expand and contract. This causes them to crack, bubble and most are highly flammable. We remove most plastic guard within 5-6 years. The BHP Bluescope Steel we use is the best product for the best longevity and effectiveness.

Is the product expensive?

GumLeaf™’s pricing is very competitive. We manufacture our product in bulk and pass the discount onto the customer.

Can I match the colour to my roof?

Yes, it is available in most COLORSTEEL® or COLORBOND® colours, however, for tile roofs, it is only available in Woodland Grey.

Does it look attractive?

Yes, the way we install GumLeaf™ is by attaching it to the top of the gutter lip, goes to the first tile, takes a step down and rests on the fascia board under the first tile.

How long will it last?

GumLeaf™ offers a warranty of 15 years, but we expect the product to offer well over 20 years’ performance.

What about maintenance?

Little is required apart from removing any accumulated debris that has not been blown or washed off the gutter guard and occasionally flushing out the spouting via the trap doors installed at the opposite end to the downpipes. All gutter guards must be flushed from time to time. We install hatches to enable this to be done easily.

Will GumLeaf™ Gutter Guard Protection save me time?

Without gutter protection, you will have to spend time clearing the gutters of leaves and other debris. With a few trees, you might get away with doing it once a year. If you have multiple trees you will need to deal with them much more often.

Will GumLeaf™ Gutter Guard Protection save me money in the long run?

When you install GumLeaf™ Gutter Guard Protection you will no longer have the expense of hiring professionals to provide gutter cleaning. Plus, gutter guards help prevent clogs which can cause water to back up under your roof shingles and lead to roof and wall damage (also: see our section on insurances).

Can GumLeaf™ Gutter Guard Protection prevent insect infestations?

Insects love stagnant water. If your gutters get clogged, you will have water standing at some point. This is a breeding ground for a variety of insects. Gutter guards help keep clogs from happening so insects don’t start spreading.

Will GumLeaf™ Gutter Guard Protection improve water flow?

Without blockages, rainwater is going to flow faster. This is great, especially if you have rain tanks you are trying to keep filled. The fast-moving water will have fewer particulates and contaminants.

Will GumLeaf™ Gutter Guard Protection prevent overflows?

When a gutter gets filled with debris, it can cause water to start overflowing. An overflow of water can damage the foundation, cause water to infiltrate your basement, and cause staining on your siding.

Will GumLeaf™ Gutter Guard Protection keep me and my home safer?

Cleaning gutters can be dangerous. Climbing up on a high ladder while reaching out to remove debris is risky without the proper gear and experience.

Will GumLeaf™ Gutter Guard Protection improve my home’s resale value?

Most people looking to buy a home want to find one that requires minimal maintenance. The thought of cleaning gutters multiple times a year is not going to appeal to a home buyer.

Can I install it myself?

Yes, it’s available for DIY. It can be purchased directly from us or any of the listed suppliers: Mitre 10, Bunnings, ITM, and Placemakers. We also have preferred installers in most areas.
